Having
refined and frozen most of the designs, formal orders have been
placed for components that will be fabricated which include the
uprights,
intake manifold and differential carrier among others. The final
designs for the chassis have also been sent across to the
supplier, further confirming the fact that BMM-03 is well and
truly taking shape.
18/5/2007 In-house
fabrication
Critical
sheet-metal work which is needed before the delivery of the
chassis has commenced so that the components can be assembled on
the chassis as they arrive on-site.
20/6/2007 Chassis delivered
The
spaceframe for BMM 03 was delivered today and lifted up the
spirits of the team to work harder to get the car completed. It
is hard not to appreciate the solidity the chassis exudes while
also being aesthetically pleasing on the eye. BMM 03 is on its
way!!!! Over the next few weeks, the suspension and steering
systems will be mounted on the chassis and a rough assembly will
be made.
5/7/2007 BMM 03 taking
shape
The
wishbones, uprights, fuel tank have all arrived from the
suppliers and are being assembled on the chassis to check for
fit and packaging boundaries.
Just
6 days more!
10/7/2007 On its
feet!!!...(oops, we meant wheels!)
Today BMM
03 graduated from being just a spaceframe chassis to a rolling
chassis after all the bits were assembled. All we would like to
say is that BMM 03 is an advanced Class II car with most systems
ready to run.
Beware
competitors!
20/02/2007 Engine Development
Having
spent numerous working hours on WAVE simulations over the winter, a
stable model of the engine has now been formulated for optimal power
and torque outputs. Also, other things are presently being
considered to improve the performance from the Yamaha R6 engine….
18/02/2007 Chassis design
frozen and ready for manufacture
Arguably
the most difficult bit to sort out in the entire project….
The chassis design for BMM-03 was frozen, which marked the
first of many milestones in this project. A careful
consideration of all design aspects and more importantly; the
rules, has resulted in an optimal design which is both robust
and lightweight. A significant weight-saving has been achieved
when compared to last year’s design.
16/10/2006 The First Meeting!
On
the 16th of October the team organized its first of many
meetings, to organize itself into a “well-oiled” unit to tackle the
many issues relating to the development of the car. Considering the
fact that the team is made up of international students from varying
cultural and educational backgrounds, the cordial atmosphere and
mutual respect maintained during the meeting spoke volumes about the
tight-knit unit that was in the making.
On
the 6th of August, 2006, Brunel University’s racing team of Masters
level Students- ‘Brunel Masters Motorsports 2006/ 07’ was officially
formed with Course Director, Prof. Hua Zhao delegating
responsibilities to the 21 students (pursuing their M.Sc Degrees in
Automotive and Motorsport Engineering course at Brunel University)
who are to work on the Formula Student racing car this year. It was
also decided that Mr. Yash C. Pathare and Mr. Jonathan
Ridley-Holloway take up the positions of Team Managers.
